Testing & performance
Security isn’t a claim. It has to be proven.
A genuine security screen must do more than look strong.
PROWLER PROOF PERFORMANCE TESTING
Australian Standard AS 5039 covers how residential security screens are classified, installed and tested against forced-entry methods. Prowler Proof security products undergo independent testing to demonstrate the performance required for their security classification, with selected ranges tested beyond the minimum security requirements for other conditions and applications. The current Australian Standard is divided into three connected parts. AS 5039.1 covers classification and performance. AS 5039.2 covers installation. AS 5039.3 defines the methods used to test a screen’s resistance to attack.
To achieve security classification, the same test sample must withstand a series of demanding assessments designed to simulate forced entry. These include dynamic impact, jemmy, pull, probe, knife-shear and corrosion testing.
Prowler Proof ForceField and Protec have achieved Security Level 200 (SL200) in dynamic-impact testing, while Diamond has achieved Security Level 100 (SL100). Both levels represent compliant security classifications when the complete manufacturing and installation requirements are satisfied.
AS 5039.1
CLASSIFICATION & PERFORMANCE
Defines the performance requirements a residential security screen must satisfy to be classified as a security product.
AS 5039.2
INSTALLATION
Sets the requirements for how the security screen must be installed so that the completed installation performs as intended.
AS 5039.3
METHODS OF TEST
Defines the physical testing used to assess resistance to forced entry, including impact, levering, pulling, probing, cutting and corrosion.

DYNAMIC IMPACT
The Dynamic Impact test measures how well a security screen withstands a forceful impact. Products are struck five times at either 100 or 200 joules and must remain securely within the frame. ForceField and Protec have achieved SL200, while Diamond has achieved SL100.

JEMMY TEST
The Jemmy test simulates an intruder attempting to lever a security screen open. A 300 mm screwdriver is used at locking and hinge points, with up to 1.5 kN of force applied for 20 seconds to test the strength of the complete screen assembly.

PULL TEST
The Pull test simulates an intruder attempting to pull or wrench the screen away from its frame. Up to 2 kN of force is applied for 20 seconds at selected points to test how securely the screen and its infill remain held in place.

PROBE TEST
The Probe test checks whether an opening in the security screen can be widened enough for an intruder to reach through and operate the lock. A force of 1.5 kN is applied to opposite sides of the opening to test its resistance.

KNIFE SHEAR TEST
The Knife Shear test simulates an attempt to cut through the security screen. A heavy-duty knife is dragged along a 250 mm line with up to 350 N of force, repeated three times using a new blade for each attempt.

CORROSION TEST
The Corrosion test checks how well the screen withstands harsh conditions over time. Products undergo 240 hours of accelerated weathering to assess corrosion resistance.
